Prime Minister at the XXV FTA Statutory Congress

Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes attended the FTA Statutory Congress, where she was invited to deliver a speech. This year’s theme focused on "The psychosocial risks that could impact the labor market." The Prime Minister emphasized that mental health is a serious issue, and changes in a person’s work environment can lead to stress and anxiety, which may have psychosocial effects that require attention. She stressed the importance of recognizing that mental health is not just a personal matter, but something that affects everyone on the island.

The Prime Minister explained that we are living in a time where the nature of work is constantly evolving. Today’s world is shaped by digital technology, globalization, and new ways of working within the “gig economy,” all of which are becoming part of our professional lives. However, the same technology that brings progress also introduces new challenges, including stress, job insecurity, and an imbalance between personal life and work.

It is crucial to acknowledge that mental health challenges are becoming increasingly prominent, and the Government of Aruba plays a fundamental role in addressing these issues. The government is taking these challenges seriously, investing heavily in awareness campaigns and creating programs to help people suffering from stress and anxiety.

The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction that these efforts are showing results, but acknowledged that much more remains to be done in this area. The impact of stress on a worker is significant, not only affecting their job performance but also their personal life. In Aruba, everyone understands that life is not just about work; there must be time to enjoy our beautiful island with family and friends. Unfortunately, without mental health, this balance becomes difficult to achieve.
