Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes, as a representative of the Dutch Kingdom, attended the opening of the "Summit of the Future" and led the Kingdom’s delegation as its head. During the event, the Prime Minister addressed those present, emphasizing that with the support of all nations and organizations like the United Nations, we can work better towards a common goal and leave a prosperous legacy for future generations.

She also highlighted that the Dutch Kingdom is extremely proud to collaborate with Jamaica on the intergovernmental processes for the Declaration on Future Generations and extended her gratitude to Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness for his commitment and cooperation. The Prime Minister remarked that this Declaration represents a significant achievement.

The Prime Minister explained that this summit provides an opportunity for leaders to make improvements not only for the current generation but also for future generations. The decisions and actions taken today will have lasting effects, ensuring a positive intergenerational impact. The Declaration has the potential to mark a crucial moment in multilateral efforts to address global crises and to establish a robust framework for long-term sustainable development.

She stressed the importance of demonstrating intergenerational solidarity. Challenges such as inequality, discrimination, climate change, and the digital divide require collective efforts to reach lasting solutions. Governments and their partners must work together to translate policy decisions into a unified intergenerational agenda.

The Prime Minister continued by explaining that the Declaration promises to bring about a major shift in how we think, ensuring that the needs of future generations and shared responsibilities become a priority in all decision-making processes. This is particularly important when addressing climate change.

Like many other countries around the world, Aruba is facing the challenge of global warming, and the actions we take today will have long-term effects on everyone, both now and in the future. Therefore, it is essential to take immediate, joint action. By supporting one another and organizations like the United Nations, we can make decisions with a shared goal in mind, leaving a prosperous legacy for future generations.

In closing, the Prime Minister thanked everyone in attendance, particularly the Secretary-General of the United Nations, for his vision in prioritizing future generations and for instilling the confidence needed to achieve this goal.
